The Historic Southside is a neighborhood where most families live in single-family homes. Today, more than 3,100 people live in the community.

During the last decade, the population in the Historic Southside grew by close to 800 people. The area has also changed in other ways.

Historic Southside has a high rate of poverty compared to other U.S. neighborhoods. Around 27% of residents live below the poverty line, which is about two times greater than the average for Tarrant County. However, the local poverty rate fell by 31 percentage points during the last decade. This was one of the steepest declines in poverty seen in the entire nation.

We can also observe how some of the indicators linked to future prosperity are currently performing.

Homeownership is relatively low in Historic Southside. Around 37% of homes are owner-occupied, which represents a slight decline from where it was ten years ago.

Housing growth during the last decade was positive in Historic Southside. The number of local homes increased by 25%. This is much faster housing growth than what was seen in most of the nation during this period.

Long-term vacancy is high in Historic Southside. Approximately 12% of homes sit empty and off the market, which is far above the average for Tarrant County.

Self-employment rates are very high in Historic Southside. Around 15% of workers work for themselves, which places the neighborhood among the most active places in the nation for entrepreneurship.
